Transformation
This cicada bears the Native American symbol for transformation. Cicadas can hibernate underground for many years before emerging as beautiful shinny bugs with a summer song. I chose the locust because like myself in many ways, she is finally emerging from the ground and ready to sing. I miss the sound of the locust that always comforted me on the east coast. Unfortunately, here in Oregon, I don’t hear their song, but I heard it in my mind as I painted this special piece.
